During your pet’s routine wellness examinations, our veterinarians will assess the teeth, gums, and overall health of each patient’s mouth. Some of the things they are looking for include:

Bad breath
Tartar and/or discoloration on the teeth
Broken, loose, missing teeth, or retained baby teeth
Pain, swelling, or bleeding anywhere within the mouth

We will also ask you if you have noticed any abnormal chewing, drooling, or inability to keep food in the mouth or change in appetite.

Unfortunately, too many believe in treating dental disease once problems have become visible or a patient is classified as a senior. However, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), periodontal disease is the most common dental condition occurring in both dogs and cats as young as 3 years old. Also, the majority of dental disease and problems occur below the gum line. That is why our comprehensive dental procedures always include the use of anesthesia and digital radiography to fully assess all areas of the mouth. While your pet is resting comfortably, we can effectively scale and polish the teeth, and make any necessary extractions or corrections.
